| ABOUT THE EVENT: |
Celebrating Ten Years of Dancing in Norwich, Vermont
The party begins at Noon, Saturday, February 16 with a series of swing and jazz dance lessons taught by none other than the 2007 World Swing Dance Champions, Benjamin Ricard and Geneviève Kérouac from Quebec City, Canada. Ben and Gen will teach introductory-level classes that are suitable for newer dancers. Swing dancing is fun and easy to learn and Ben and Gen’s workshops are among the best places to learn.
In addition to their 2007 World title, Ben and Gen were also showcase champions at the 2005 World Lindy Hop Championships, the 2006 and 2007 National Jitterbug Championships and other Canadian and American championships. They are both amazing dancers and very detailed instructors.
Famous for their incredibly smooth dance style and their gravity-defying aerials, Benjamin and Genevieve will be available to dance with anyone who attends the afternoon workshops and the evening dance. Advance registration is not required but is appreciated. To register call John or Sandra at 603-643-5341 or visit http://www.uvdance.net.
ABOUT THE BAND
Bob Merrill’s Fabulous Five takes the stage at 8:00 pm, and swings the night away. Local piano legend and vocalist Bob Merrill (often referred to as “The Bobby Short of the Upper Valley”) is joined by bassist David Westphalen, drummer Eric von Ammon, trumpeter Charles Schneeweis and saxophonist Michael Zsoldos. Count on some hard-swinging classics, some cool and easy jazz, swinging East-Coast and West-Coast, and some salsa mixed in. These are seasoned players whose goal is to have fun swinging. There may even be some guest appearances.
ABOUT THE UPPER VALLEY DANCE NETWORK
The Upper Valley Dance Network was founded in 1998 by dance enthusiast, DJ and dance instructor, John Tomeny. Now co-directed by the popular dance instructor team, John & Sandra Tomeny, the UVDN hosts monthly swing and ballroom dances at Tracy Hall in Norwich, Vermont, and Second Saturday Salsa dances at Gusanoz Mexican Restaurant in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The Network also sponsors regular weekly lessons and special monthly dance workshops with world-class instructors.
Once each year the Upper Valley Dance Network hosts an opportunity to learn from, and dance with, two of the most popular instructors in the world. Previous year’s instructors have included the world famous Frankie Manning, one of the inventors of swing dance from the 1930’s, six-year reigning World Champions, Nathalie Gomes and Yuval Hod, and California Swing Dance Champion, Sylvia Sykes.
