For thirteen years, the Upper Valley Dance Network has hosted some of the most
remarkable instructors in North America and created numerous opportunities for Upper Valley
residents to experience the joy of dance.
Over the years we have hosted many World Champion dancers and instructors; including the
great legend of Lindy Hop, Frankie Manning, plus World Swing Dance Champions Natalie Gomes
and Yuval Hod, World Lindy Hop Champions Benjamin & Geneviève, US Dance
Champions, Natalie Mavor Miles, Richard Caruso and Diane Sangermano, 3-time Feather
Award Winner and US Latin Champion, Enio Cordoba, and so many others.
This 2011 season, will be our last season at Tracy Hall in Norwich, VT. We will close
our Tracy Hall dances with a final Salsa Immersion Weekend in February with the great
Salsa instructor from Los Angeles; Enio Cordoba! Enio is one of the top Salsa dance
instructors in the US. We are very privileged to have hosted all of these World and
National dance champions to teach in the Upper Valley, and we are pleased to bring you
for the second time, Enio Cordoba.
Please join us on the weekend of February 4, 5, and 6 for the Upper Valley Dance
Network’s final dance event at Tracy Hall in Norwich. (Note that our “Second
Saturday” monthly Salsa dances will continue at Gusanoz Mexican Restaurant in

US Amateur & Rising Star Professional Latin Champion, Enio
Cordoba, is among the most in demand Salsa teachers in the world. In addition to owning the
most popular Salsa club in Los Angeles- The Granada, Enio is a judge at the World Salsa
Championships in Orlando, and has choreographed for many of the top West Coast Salsa World
Champions. We are fortunate to have Enio because after he purchased the Granada he quit traveling to
focus on making his club very successful.
Black Beans Cuban/Salsa
Band will play for
Upper Valley Dance Network
Enio has received three coveted Feather Awards (like the Academy Awards for dancers) - twice as the
Hottest Mambo Dancer and once as the Top Teacher. In 1998 Enio taught at the prestigious World Dance
Congress in Blackpool, the European Salsa Congress, the Dutch Professional Congress, the Belgian
Dance Congress, and has taught in Spain, Austria, Italy, Germany, Latvia, Slovakia, Canada plus many
times in London. In 1999 he taught at the German Congress in Frankfurt and returned to Blackpool for
the World Social Dance Congress.
His specialty is combining the street feel of Salsa with the speed and control of trained
competitive dancers. His massive classes are the largest in Los Angeles because the focus is on
great social dancing, not show patterns that are out of place in crowded clubs.
In 1982 Enio choreographed the dancing for Mr. Mister’s video Broken Wings which subsequently
went #1 on MTV. In 1987 Enio choreographed and danced in a commercial for PIM pantyhose. In 1998
Enio taught Director Randa Haines prior to the filming of “Dance With Me”. He also
trained various members of the cast including Vanessa Williams, Chayenne, Joan Plowright, Harry
Groener, Scott Paetty, and Jane Krakowski. Enio and his partner, Terryl Jones can be seen in many
scenes throughout the movie and helped choreographed much of the dancing behind the scenes. They can
be seen in the current Chevrolet Impala commercials appearing on Spanish networks.
Quoting the famous Edie, The Salsa FREEK; “The caliber of instruction by Enio Cordoba is
unparalleled. [Enio] teaches at the Let’s Dance Studio in Alhambra, California, and has a
student base numbering the thousands.” Enio is truly a World-class Master! We are thrilled to
bring Enio all the way from Los Angeles to teach some of the most unique Salsa workshops that may
ever be offered in Vermont.
See why Enio has for 15 years consistently taught the biggest Salsa classes in LA and around the
world. One of the few dancers to have excelled in the Salsa, Swing, and Latin Ballroom worlds. His
Salsa Nightclub, The Granada, has been named the best Salsa Club in LA for several consecutive
years.
On Saturday, each workshop is 75-minutes long with practice time after each one to give you a chance
to really learn and remember the material.
Weekend Schedule All workshops taught by Enio Cordoba and Terryl Jones
Friday, February 4, 2011 The Newport Ballroom, 35 Main Street, Newport, NH
Intro - 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM: Club Salsa: Enio-style
(all levels, no partner needed). One of the most rewarding ways to learn any dance style is with
an emphasis on the roots and early character of the dance. Salsa is a street dance that emerged
in Latin clubs long before it found its way into ballrooms. This introduction to Club Salsa will
take you back to its roots - Enio-style. No partner is required.
Rueda - 8:30 PM - 9:30 PM: Rueda de Casino (Casino Rueda 1)
(all levels, no partner needed). Why dance with just one person when you can dance with a whole
roomful? Born in Havana, this easy form of Salsa is so much fun because it allows everyone to
dance the same moves in a circle at the same time. “Salsa Rueda”, as it is commonly
known, is the basis for most of the salsa dancing in Miami and is popular in many other
communities. See an example of it here from:
Stanford University
Fri - 9:30 PM - 12:00 AM: Friday Night Salsa Party
Join us for our weekend opening party. There will be Salsa dancers from the local scene as well
as from other parts of New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Canada. Our DJ will be our own
DJ Spin Doctor.
Saturday, February 5, 2011 Tracy Hall (town hall), 300 Main Street, Norwich, VT
A - 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM: Great Patterns to Make Your Salsa Sizzle
(Some Salsa experience recommended, no partner needed.) On1?
On2? Linear salsa? Rotational Salsa? Cuban Style? Columbian? Puerto Rican? New York? LA? Why
choose only one Style? The best dancers in the world use techniques from all of these styles.
Learn how to incorporate all of these techniques for a very smooth, tight Club Salsa.
Fifteen minute Practice
B - 12:00 PM - 1:15 PM: Breaking the Myths of Salsa
(All levels, no partner needed. This class is a recommended prerequisite for any of the other
classes because Enio will build on what he covers here.) In one session learn the secrets and
differences of Club Salsa that will make you shine on the floor and look like you’ve been
dancing Salsa all your life. Enio will cover the four levels of the Salsa basic and introduce
the concept of Rotational and Pivot turns. All other classes will use the material from this
class as a basis.
One-hour Dance-Lunch Break
Get a sandwich from the deli across the street, then come back and eat and dance.
C - 2:15 PM - 3:30 PM: Rueda de Casino (Casino Rueda 2)
(All levels, no partner needed). Every Rueda group creates and adds their own
moves. Enio has added some that are also great for club Salsa dancing.
Fifteen minute Practice
D - 3:45 PM - 5:00 PM: Sizzling Salsa inspired by Swing & Tango
(Some Salsa experience recommended, no partner needed). Some of the most innovative
moves in Salsa are often steps converted from West Coast Swing, Hustle or Tango.
Three hour Dinner Break
There are lots of great restaurants nearby. Grab a bite with friends and come back for the Black Beans Band at 8:00 PM.
Dance - 8:00 PM - 12:30 AM: Saturday Night Salsa Party The Black Beans Band & DJ Spin Doctor
And what a party it will be! We’ll start the night at 8:00 pm sharp with one of the
driving forces of the Salsa scene in the Upper Valley; our own DJ Spin Doctor. Then, at 9:00 pm,
the popular Black Beans Cuban/Salsa band will be on stage and rotate music sets with DJ
Spin Doctor until Midnight.
Sunday, February 6, 2011 The Newport Ballroom, 35 Main Street, Newport, NH

Salsa Dance Workshops

Tracy Hall (the town hall) Norwich, Vermont
Taste the excitement of Salsa in the Upper Valley.
Puerto Rican dancer, Sheila Larsson, grew up dancing to the great Salsa bands. Nicknamed
“Liquid” because of her amazing fluidity on the dance floor, Sheila exudes salsa in
every move she makes. She is ready to dance at the first beat of a salsa rhythm, and she’s
usually the last dancer on the floor. If you want to understand Cuban Motion, one of the foundations
of salsa dance, Sheila can show it to you like few others can.
John Tomeny is a driving force in the Salsa dance scene of the Upper Valley, both as a DJ
and as an instructor. A dance teacher for fifteen years, John brings a unique depth of professional
experience to dance instruction. But he never forgets to have fun as he spreads an infectious joy
for dance in every class he teaches.

John and Sandra Tomeny are personable and engaging instructors who
have been creating opportunities for dance in the Upper Valley and greater New England region for
over 15 years. New students to their classes frequently remark at how their instruction is clear and
easy to understand. They bring a depth of professional experience to dance instruction while
infusing their classes with humor and an ever present joy for dance.
Smooth Style Swing is a style of swing dance first introduced by Dean Collins in the
1940’s. Smooth Style Swing is both a popular style of Lindy Hop today and the inspiration from
which West Coast Swing emerged. Since it is one of the “roots” of modern day swing
dance (both west coast and east coast swing), learning Smooth Style technique and movement will help
you to master other styles of swing dance more easily.
